About This Project

Linking to WWII as a topic, we follow the story of William Beech who has been evacuated from London to the rural village of Little Wierwold. William has had a hard life back in London. The children follow William’s journey as he moves in with his host ‘father’, Thomas Oakley – a grouchy old man who is “not sure about this motherin’ lark” and seems to have a lot on his mind. Two damaged people who are thrown together and have to make do with what they’ve got and help each other mend.

Year 6 class teachers delivered some of this four part participatory drama alongside an actor-teacher and some of it alone with their class.
